First Comes Love

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage.

I was so blessed this last half of the year with so many wonderful events taking place right in my own family. My sister became engaged, one of my cousins got married and moved to Belgium, and another cousin gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I was given the honor of photographing all of these special moments in time.

It struck me that all three of these women are at different stages in life: engagement, marriage, pregnancy and birth.

“There are so many emotions that have passed through me since I have been engaged, I think the most prominent feeling I have is excited and blessed,” Ashlie Overton explains about her recent engagement. “I feel so blessed that the man of my dreams wants me to be by his side for the rest of his life. I just keep thinking about how my life will change, all the wonderful things we will be able to do, and the full life we will live. It’s almost magical to think that someone wants to know me fully, and love me deeply.”

Overton and her fiancé, Kyle Newman became engaged at Mountasia, a miniature golf course in Canyon Country, California. Their wedding date is set for next year.

Samantha Fick and her husband Tyler Fick expected their first child Thanksgiving weekend. Their daughter Maeleigh was late and was born on Dec. 1, 2014.

“Being pregnant was amazing for physical, emotional, spiritual preparation for labor, delivery and then for the first few days with a newborn. I feel like God totally planned that out amazing—to give us the 9 plus months to process through all the changes happening in pregnancy which gave me a lot of strength to handle all the changes with a new baby, ” Samantha says. “And then now that she is here I feel relieved to not be pregnant. And I’m overwhelmed at times, but I do feel like at the end of pregnancy my body was preparing for this.”

Maeleigh is now one week old, happy and healthy.  “I was in total shock when I saw her. It is still hard for me to connect that she was the one inside me.”

All three of these women are going through very important times in their lives, as Maeleigh will someday.
