City Lights

Beneath a yellow and pink sunset on October 25, 2014, Calvary Church in Colorado Springs buzzed with the excitement of over 2,000 excited teens and young adults. As Reach Record recording artist Andy Mineo landed at the Colorado Springs airport the City Lights team began preparing to take the stage. The sanctuary fell black, and a single row of red lights lights illuminated the crowd. The bass shook the stage and the crowd went wild.

City Lights is a Colorado Springs based non-profit organization that keeps kids off of the street and puts on free concerts on Friday nights at local churches in the state of Colorado. Special guests such as  Andy Mineo and Trip Lee have come to support City Lights and encourage the team to fight for the vision God gave them. Cory Ard and Jordan Cater felt the burden to start City Lights after reminiscing about their lives and the way they struggled to find good influences growing up. In 2010 City Lights was born. “The way the God has used us to change the hearts of young men and women still blows me away,” Carter commented.

Ard couldn’t have agreed more with Carter’s feelings, saying, “It’s a humbling experience to lead someone past the religion of the church in to a relationship with God through our music. There’s nothing more humbling,”

– Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.16 In the same way, let your light so shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
