Ventura High Goes 2-0 With Rout of Agoura

The Ventura High School Cougars faced off against the Agoura High School Chargers in a non-conference football game at the Larabee Stadium, both teams entering the match with one win under their belts.

The game had both sides fighting to take the lead yet scoreless through the first half.  Agoura’s Christian Williams made a 39-yard touchdown early on in the second period to put the Chargers ahead 14-7. Ventura fought back to even the score and they eventually took a slight advantage over the Chargers after Tristan Kanthack kicked a 22-yard field goal with ten seconds remaining before halftime.

“In the first quarter we were sluggish offensively and that was disappointing,” said Ventura Cougars Head Coach Tim Garcia. “We want to come out and get on teams early.”

The Ventura High School dance team kept the spectators entertained at halftime, and the Cougars band provided an energetic soundtrack to their performance.   The heightened energy level from halftime carried onto the field as the Cougars came out of the locker room more determined, scoring early in the third period and ultimately winning by a score of 37-14.

“I feel good about how we are progressing every week, we still have a long ways to go and it only gets tougher,” acknowledged Garcia. “As long as we keep progressing and bring our lunch pail to practice, then we should be fine.”
