Ventura Beach Party Runs Strong for Third Year

The weekend of September 6th and 7th, 2014 marked the third annual Ventura Beach Party. This event paired with the Ventura Marathon, was founded in January of 2012. With over 50 sponsors and vendors, the Ventura Beach Party stretches from the Ventura Pier across to the Promenade.
The Ventura Beach Party has over 600 volunteers and is a free community event with beach games, live music, arts and crafts, and kids activities. People of all ages came to spend the day or even a few hours soaking up the warm and cheerful atmosphere. Local artists, sports vendors, and a number of other booths line the Ventura Promenade for this two day festival.
A local painter, Tana Vivian sells her art during the Beach Party. Vivian has done work in East Africa and Asia, she uses a part of the money she receives to help humanitarian efforts in these regions. Her most recent exhibition is currently at Red Brick Pizza and is called “Keep Your Head Up”.
Alongside the Beach Party is the Ventura Marathon which includes a bike race, marathon, half marathon, and 5K run. Those who participate in the Ventura Marathon can qualify for the Boston Marathon. Over 5,000 people of all different ages participated in this year’s half and full marathon. The 2014 winners were Dirian Bonilla, 28, running a 2:32:34.4 and Bonnie Keating, 29, coming in at 2:45:15.7. The youngest participant was 12-year-old Sally Niebergall who finished with a time of 5:11:35.1.
The Ventura Beach Party and Ventura Marathon bring thousands of people to Ventura each year. Whether you’re local or not, young or old, this two day gathering brings people together as a community.
