Ventura County Fusion vs. Rangers F.C.

Rangers F.C. could have hardly asked for a worse start to their North American tour as they were humiliated 3-1 by the Ventura County Fusion.

The Scottish side were well supported with fans coming from all over Southern California to watch the Glasgow side, but they were faced with a first half shock as Jordan Vale turned a well timed pass into the back of the net in the 41st minute.

Going into the second half 1-0 down was not what Rangers F.C. would have expected, and things hardly improved when in the 73rd minute Fusion player Ronnie Argueta rounded Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell to slot into an empty net, much to the dismay of the celebrity guest, and Rangers supporter, Malcolm McDowell.

Rangers F.C. had a difficult time adjusting to the artificial surface of the Ventura College Sportsplex, but that’s not to take away from a fantastic Fusion side who bossed the game throughout, and were rarely threatened by their professional opponents.

A slight glimmer of hope was given to Rangers supporters after defender Biel Mohsni’s striker brought the score to 2-1 in the 81st minute, but that glimmer faded quickly as Fusion midfielder Matt LaGrassa scored with a beautiful curling shot only four minutes later.

The final whistle sounded with the score 3-1 in favor of the Fusion, leaving the Rangers players to exit the pitch with heads hung low as their part-time opponents celebrated a famous win.
